A great re-release, September 2, 2002
Reviewer: Mr. Leo Hageman from NC

You will never find a greater percussionist than Jim Brock. This album will take you places you have never been and always wanted to go. This guy is creative and give you sounds that you never thought were possible from jazz. What a wonder album ... then and now! I enjoyed it over and over and again now on CD.

  LETTERS FROM THE EQUATOR
" It's Always Hot At The Equator ", June 15, 2000
  Reviewer:  Las Vegas, Nevada USA

I first heard Van Manakas's guitar playing on the Tunnels disk called "Percy Jones With Tunnels". I didn't know what to think of him at first until I purchased a copy of "Letters From The Equator". A playing style all his own and an excellent style as well. Musically this recording is great! Accompanied by Jim Brock on percussion and a Professor Johnson recording, this disk is a winner! If you like guitar music that isn't just technical ability and you liked Van's work with Tunnels than I strongly recommend this disk to you.

  TROPIC AFFAIR
" This Disk Will Blow You Away In 56 Seconds! ", June 10, 2000
  Reviewer:  Las Vegas, Nevada USA

Jim Brock's Tropic Affair is one of the best jazz/fusion CD's I have come across in the last year. Great from beginning to end and one of the best Latin influenced recordings I know of. When I first played this first rate, quality recording I was very impressed with an almost Eumir Deodato like sound that it has. I suggest you turn your stereo down to a safe level before you start rockin out! It's very dynamic. You won't be disappointed. I have heard Jim Brock has made recordings earlier than this one. I sure wish I had them! I can't get enough of the incredible arrangment and quality musicianship on this disk. Keep them coming Jim!
