  The Spirit Of Sacajawea        DVD

The only woman and the only Native American to travel with the Lewis and Clark expedition, Sacajawea is one of the most revered women in American history. Yet her story has been romanticized and often misinterpreted by non-natives. The Spirit of Sacajawea examines the many controversies of her life, how her tribes were impacted, and how they are surviving today.

Narrated by: Tantoo Cardinal ( Dances With Wolves )

Winner of 2 Emmy Awards, a Telly Award and a Gracie Allen Award

  PASAJES

Of all the recordings that I have made, this one holds a special place in my soul. Recorded in a time when musicians gathered in the studio, rolled their sleeves up and went work with the understanding that what we create will go on after we have long departed. Pasajes features the late great Mel Lewis, Eugene Friessen, cellist of the Paul Winter Consort, Dick Oates on Saxophone, and a host of other fabulous musicians. Originally released on vinyl, it has been re-mastered for CD.

  LETTERS FROM THE EQUATOR

After the success of Tropic Affair, I was asked to make another recording for the San Francisco based label Reference Recordings. I thought how nice it would be to do a co-bill with the guitarist Van Manakas. Van and I were fortunate to have been part of the pioneering of a musical movement called New Age, working with the Windham Hill label in the early 80s. After years on the road together we came together again to make this recording. Don't be fooled. This recording is strong and dangerous!

  TROPIC AFFAIR

Here is a review that popped up on Amazon.com.

Jim Brock's Tropic Affair is one of the best jazz/fusion CD's I have come across in the last year. Great from beginning to end and one of the best Latin influenced recordings I know of. When I first played this first rate, quality recording I was very impressed with an almost Eumir Deodato like sound that it has. I suggest you turn your stereo down to a safe level before you start rockin out! It's very dynamic. You won't be disappointed. I have heard Jim Brock has made recordings earlier than this one. I sure wish I had them! I can't get enough of the incredible arrangment and quality musicianship on this disk. Keep them coming Jim!

  What Is...What Was

I am very proud of this recording and I will tell you why. The band I had then was a monster! I wanted to document it somehow, so I made this record on my own without the " do's and don'ts" of a record label. I was free to record any damn thing I wanted to. The thing that makes it so special is, it's LIVE, in a sold out club over the course of two nights. I hired the best engineer with the best recording gear, and the place was on fire that weekend.  It wound up in the running for a Grammy that year in the "Best Contemporary Jazz Recording" category.  ALAS!  Dave Grusin took the trophy home that year.
